Monitoring activities in coastal waters

September, 2016.- The monitoring campaign in coastal waters started on 23rd August in the Susurluk Basin. During the following days the sampling team visited the sampling points in order to obtain the samples to analyse chemical, biological and hydro-morphological quality elements.

After sampling in the Arapçiftliği lagoon in the Susurluk Basin, where we found ourselves in shallow waters full of aquatic vegetation, fish, herons, flamingos and a black stork, the next day we were initiating the coastal sampling in the sea. We found very brave fishermen from Kurşunlu, Karacabey, and although we began sailing with a wind of 4-5 knots, it soon evolved into an 8 knot. Divers for the flora, and the rest of the sampling team for phytoplankton, macroinvertebrates and water samples for chemical analysis, did a great job under harsh conditions. But everybody was compensated later when we enjoyed a magnificent fish meal in the local tavern.

Sampling day 3 and we were off with a fishing boat from the river, in order to sample the transitional waters at the very end of the river mouth.

Although windy, the waves were not even close to those we faced the day before at the Marmara Sea.
